Tags: the 'what it is' dimension
A tag describes a trait of the video: the performer, the category, the studio, the situation. A video can have many tags at once, and that's its strength. You search by the intersection of tags and land on what you want without having defined folders in advance.
- Use short, lowercase tags, consistent over time.
- Avoid synonyms: pick one term and stick to it (not 'blonde' and 'blondes').
- You don't have to tag everything on day one; add tags as they come up.
Collections: the 'what for' dimension
A collection is a list with intent: what you watch to wind down, a selection for a specific night, or new things you want to explore. Unlike tags, you build a collection by hand and it reflects a purpose, not a trait.
The simple rule
If you're asking 'what does this video have', it's a tag. If you're asking 'when or what do I want to watch it for', it's a collection. Most of your organization will live in tags; collections are few and heavily used.
